Carol Bly, B.A., Doctorate of Humane Letters (Writer)

Carol Bly is the author of five collections of essays and short stories, including the book which partically inspired this conference, The Passionate, Accurate Story. She is the recipient of the 1990 and 1996 Minnesota Annual Books Awards for nonfiction. Her most recent book, Changing the Bully Who Rules the World, has been called "a unique and wonderful book, filled with the courage of a moraist, the creativity of a writer,and the passion of a great soul." Mary Piper, aughor of Reviving Ophelia, calls Carol "a one woman army fighting moral drift and the bullies of the world . . complex, incisive and hopeful." An experienced presenter, Carol lectures around the country, teaches Ethics in Literature at the University of Minnesota and does week-long workshops at the Vermont Studio Center and the University of Minnesota's Split Rock Program. Additionally, Carol says of herself that she is "the mother of four chidlren and a member of the Democratic Party."
