2-day Foundation programme BRIEF Coaching

keeping in shape

Being a solution focused coach is not a destination; it is a continuing journey. The set of technical skills embedded in the approach can be learned and even adapted to other models but they do not in themselves constitute solution focused coaching: they come with a philosophy and a set of assumptions about change. It is this philosophy and its accompanying assumptions that drive the techniques and ultimately discard them in exchange for better ones. It is BRIEF’s adherence to this philosophy that puts it at the leading edge of solution focused developments world-wide.

This advanced coaching day will be hot on the philosophy as well as the techniques of solution focused practice. The ‘Ockham’s Razor’ principle introduced by Steve de Shazer, co-founder of the approach, has been further developed into a dynamic minimalism: the constant questioning of what is necessary for effective coaching and a constant curiosity about what might fill the space left by abandoned techniques.

On this course you will revisit some of BRIEF’s most surprising (and appealing) heresies such as

  • Rapport is something you lose not something you build
  • Trust only needs to be one way: coach to client
  • Motivation is an irrelevant concept
  • Plans and tasks slow down rather than promote achievement
  • The client-coach relationship is a bi-product not a central feature of effective brief coaching
  • Past problems have nothing to teach us about future success

And many more.

Join colleagues, some old, some new, for one of these stimulating training days where you will put philosophy into practice. There will be no fixed programme but like all BRIEF courses you will be actively engaged throughout the day in doing what we talk about.

You are likely to leave refreshed, energised, more passionate and more disciplined in your solution focused practice.
