Solution Focus helps reduce numbers of children in care

BRIEF was yesterday invited to join the D-Bit (Divisional-based Intervention Teams) Service in Essex for a Whole Service Day. The day marked the shift of status of D-Bit from pilot project to fully established and permanent service. The invitation arrived in recognition of the solution focused training that  Harvey Ratner has been delivering to the team members over the last year or more (and continues to deliver), so both BRIEF and the two Systemic consultants to the Service were asked to participate in the team’s planning and their thinking about the future of this exciting newly instituted service.

The whole group was addressed in the morning by Helen Lincoln, Essex Director of Children’s Social Care and YOS. Helen’s appreciation for the Service’s work was striking. Her recognition of the service’s contribution in reducing the numbers of children in care was warm and gracious. She described the service as a ‘solution focused in-and-out service’ tasked with helping families through crisis and getting them sufficiently onto their feet to be able to get on with their lives. She praised the team’s approach, commending them for working in a way that minimised the risk of dependency. What a difference she said it made to service-users to be asked at the outset of work ‘how can we help’ rather than saying ‘we are here to assess’. BRIEF agrees with Helen and sends D-bit every good wish going forward.
